Berchtesgaden sits barely 30 minutes from Salzburg, just over the border in Bavaria — yet it feels like the wildest heart of the Alps. This private day pairs its two icons: the emerald-green Königssee and the vertiginous Eagle’s Nest.

On the Königssee, silent electric boats glide beneath sheer cliffs to the red-domed chapel of St. Bartholomä, pausing so the boatman can play a trumpet against the famous echo wall. High above, the Eagle’s Nest is reached by a mountain road and a lift bored through the rock, rewarding you with a 360° panorama — open mid-May to October.

    Eagle’s Nest (mid-May to October)

    The mountain road and lift take you to the 1,834 m summit house and its 360° panorama.

    Time in the town, or add the salt mine or the Obersalzberg Documentation Center.

Is the Eagle’s Nest open all year?

No — only mid-May to October, as snow closes the access road. In winter we replace it with the Obersalzberg Documentation Center or the Berchtesgaden salt mine.

Is the Königssee boat included?

The boat ticket is optional and paid locally; we time the day around the boat departure so it runs smoothly.
